It's time for our annual BEACH CLEAN and KEY DRIVE!

The beach is looking a little scruffy and could use a little love.
Join us on SATURDAY JUNE 8 at 9am for a beach clean and CCA huddle!
Bring your yard bags, rakes and elbow grease.

Coffee and snacks to be provided for helping hands.

Of interest to our members:
We've been approached by several people outside of our community who are interested in paying yearly fees for the opportunity to have access to our beach.  This is not something we've done in the past, and we're interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.  Please bring your opinions to the beach clean!

AS WELL:
Leading up to the beach clean, June 3-7, we will be visiting door to door to collect the annual membership fees. Fees remain $50 for the year. For those who have signed onto our Paypal account and authorized yearly membership - THANK YOU!  And for folks who have continued to support and help CCA each year with yard bags, memberships, and door knocking - THANK YOU!

Because of your support, we are very happy to say that we should have the funds available to improve our beach this year! Some of you may remember the plans and fundraising to improve the beach with new grading and sand.  If we are as successful this year with membership collection as last year, we should be able to improve the beach before the autumn!

GOOD BYE WINTER - HELLO SPRING!  CCA EARTH DAY SPRING CLEAN is COMING

Did that feel like a longer-than-usual winter, or what? Phew! 
Spring is finally here!  Be sure to "clean" your schedules on Saturday April 27: 9am to noon!

The Musselman Lake Residents Association is teaming up with the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, and United Soils in the annual EARTH DAY SPRING CLEAN on SATURDAY APRIL 27. 
This is always a good time: Give the neighbourhood a little scrub, and enjoy some lunch and hot chocolate with your neighbours.

• Meet at Cedar Beach Pavilion: 9am until noon
• Bring your work gloves and helping hands
• Reflective vests will be provided for our little helpers
• Garbage and recycling bags will be provided
• Hot chocolate and a hot lunch provided by United Soils
• Bring any unwanted bicycles for donation to AFRICYCLE

It's that time of year again!
We will be collecting our annual membership fees next weekend: May26/27.
Membership fees are $50/year.  You can pay by cash, cheque, or Paypal.
All cheques can be made payable to Cedarvale Community Association.
The BEST way to pay is through our Paypal account! You can chose to pay once, or Subscribe and have the fees removed from your account once a year.

If anyone would like to help us out with collecting fees, please email us at cedarvale.association@gmail.com
High school helpers can use CCA towards their volunteer credits!

All membership fees go toward maintaining our beach access.  Fees ensure our taxes and insurance are paid!  Without membership fees, we will lose the beach access within a year.  We are also trying to raise enough money to landscape our beach and make it beautiful again.  Stay tuned for more info on our fundraising project.

Earth Day events CANCELLED

Mother Earth has other plans for us!  With the poor weather and heaps of snow still covering our town, the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville has decided to cancel Earth Day events in the community.  Unfortunately, this will include our Musselman Lake clean up as well!

EARTH DAY CLEAN UPS CANCELLED DUE TO UNCOOPERATING WEATHER

WHITCHURCH-STOUFFVILLE, ON – Three Earth Day Clean Ups around Whitchurch-Stouffville have been cancelled this weekend because of Mother Nature.

The three community clean up events scheduled for this Saturday at Byers Pond Park, Musselman’s Lake and the Stouffville Reservoir, have fallen victim to harsh winter weather that struck most of Southern Ontario this week.

“Not only has the snow and ice from this past weekend covered the ground, but it has also created some unsafe conditions,” said Brittany Wong, Recreation Programmer at the Town. “Musselman’s Lake certainly would not be safe for residents to be around with high water levels and ice.”

As of Wednesday, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority have elevated flood warnings or outlooks.

Gloves, bags and seedlings are still available at the Leisure Centre at 2 Park Drive if residents would like to clean up areas at other times according to Wong.  Spring-like weather is expected to arrive next week with warmer temperatures.

“We would certainly encourage people to help clean up their neighbourhoods when the spring weather finally gets here,” Wong said.

It's time for the annual CCA Membership Drive.

We will be coming around this week to collect the Membership Fee.  
This year, the fee is $50. 

Great News! We now have PayPal as a payment option on our website!

Households can now use Paypal to Subscribe to CAA - this will allow PayPal to withdraw $50 a year, on the same day each year. By Subscribing to CCA Membership, you will never have to worry about having to find paper money in the house again! 

If you don't wish to Subscribe, we also have a Donate button on the site. Households can use this button to complete a one-time Member's Fee, or other amount.

CCA will get a message from Paypal and you will be added to our Member's List.

Our Membership fees raise money to ensure our insurance and taxes are paid each year – if we can’t pay our costs we will lose the access! 

Our membership has been declining each year, and our beach access is at risk.  We need your membership fees to ensure we all keep the access, and to make the necessary improvements to the property to keep the beach on land, and out of the lake.

Besides being beautiful, the lake access is a valuable asset.  We all watched the homes sold over the year: each home listing included “LAKE ACCESS” as a valuable trait.

• Builds the community
• Young volunteers who work on the beach access can use this toward your Volunteer Credits

Aaaannnd - We're BACK! Get ready for Summer!

Hello CCA!

Winter is finally gone and it's time for our annual Spring Clean!  Time to clean up our beach and show it some love. Looking forward to a warm summer at the beach!

The beach clean up will be THIS WEEKEND, Saturday May 27, from 10am to noon.
Come on down to the beach access and meet your neighbours! Lots of new folks in the neighbourhood this year.  Bring your yard bags and rakes.  There will be treats available for helping hands.

This is a great opportunity to touch base with neighbours, meet new friends, and add your name to the CCA roster.  We will also have a newsletter on hand with some handy info about membership fees, upcoming events, and improving the beach. And for new folks in the 'hood: WHO is CCA? (Hint: it's someone very close to you!)

We are also having a neighbourhood meeting THIS THURSDAY at 7:30 pm.   If you're interested in being involved in Cedarvale Community Association, please contact Carrie at carrie.mcalister@gmail.com for the meeting place.  We will be discussing the future and funding of our association, and upcoming events.

Recreational Activities at Cedar Beach Pavilion

Cedar Beach Pavilion will be hosting recreational activities this summer.  The activities are open for all residents to enjoy.

Lisa Shuttleworth will be running some events, her bio below:

Hi, my name is Lisa and I am happy to be offering the local community of Musselmans Lake a selection of classes at the Pavilion. Classes will be held throughout the summer up until the Thanksgiving weekend.

The Recreation Centre (Pavilion/ Dance Hall) has a newly renovate space that occupies half of the hall for exercise classes. 

I am offering a '10-Class Family Pass' for $75.oo that you can share with other family members as well as choose any classes.

Also, we have started a great initiative to engage the local teenagers that are wishing to earn their 'Community Credits' for High School. A 'Creativity4 Credits' allows the local youth to help the local community every Thursday.  Contact me for details.

Open House at United Soils this Thursday

United Soils is hosting an open house this Thursday, June 30 at 4:30pm. Everyone is welcome to visit 14245 Ninth Line for an educational presentation on the current and long term plans of this facility. See United Soils website for more info.

This coming Tuesday June 21th starting at 7 pm, Cedar Beach dancehall is hosting a free yoga night in honour of World Yoga Day.

Upcoming Events and Fun under the Big Tents!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who made Family Fun Day a huge success!

Partnering with MLRA,  we had our first annual Family Fun Day with bouncy castles, raffles, food and treats.  The weather called for for rain but it turned into a scorching hot day! With the money earned from our raffles and 50/50 draw, we were successful in raising a portion of the funds needed for our Beach Beautification permits. This is very exciting, our plan is starting to come together.

Last weekend we also had our annual Spring Clean - thanks to everyone who made it to the beach to help clean out the winters' garbage. Our beach looks a little better for it.

Following our beach clean up we met with a local landscaper who discussed our plans for the Beach Beautification. We have been given a loose estimate of $5000 for everything we want to do including:

• New sand for the playground
• Gabion baskets to hold back the land at the top of the beach
• Tree stump removal at the top of the beach
• Grading and sodding
• New sand for the beach

Our estimate is still unfinalized until we firm up plans with the LSRCA; once we have permits from them we will have a better idea of our costs. We are hoping to reduce our costs by using our own labour and gathering donations - stay tuned to this site for more details! 

And speaking of donations!

Our next fundraiser will be Saturday July 9 at our beach. 

We will be selling hot dogs and burgers to help raise funds, but feel free to make a dish to share potluck-style! Bring your chairs and favourite drink and come say hi to your neighbours!

Big Weekend for CCA!

Big things in store for Cedarvale Community Association this weekend!

Family Fun Day - Saturday May 28 from 11am to 2pm

Don't miss the fun at Cedar Beach Resort. A fun day for the whole family! Admission is free! 

• Bouncy castles
• Build a bird house
• Hot dogs, hamburgers, schnitzel, fries
• Face painting
• Stouffville Museum exhibit
• Ballantrae Fire Department
• 50/50 draw and raffle prizes! 

CCA will also have an info table at the Family Fun Day. We will have our Beach Beautification Project plans on hand and a donation box to help us reach our goals! Come on by and say hi!

Spring Clean update: Rain Date Sunday May 28

Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans for us this weekend! New date for the Annual Spring Clean is Sunday May 28, 10am to 11am.

CCA Beach Spring Clean: May 14, 10am - 11am

Earth Day was a great success with a turnout of around 100 people. A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated, and our sponsors: Cedar Beach Resort, Tiny Seedlings, and the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Our next Cedarvale Community Association meeting is the annual Spring Clean. This year it will be on Saturday May 14, at 10am to 11am. After the cleaning we will be discussing our plans for the beach, our plans for the membership drive, upcoming family events, and collecting names of people who can help us with the Big Plan. We will also be unveiling LOGO IDEAS for CCA!

This summer we will be looking for help in lots of ways:

• Muscles and brawn: we will need help with working the landscape of the beach
• Machinery: we are looking for small earth-moving machines, and help pulling out the tree stump
• Fundraising: we will be looking for ideas, but most importantly PEOPLE who can help plan and take part in our fundraisers
• Street Reps: looking for a few people on each street to help with talking to neighbours to help spread our info, and help with collecting yearly membership fees

May 14: come on down to the beach! Bring your yard waste bags and rakes! Help us select a logo!

Earth Day 2016: Saturday April 23rd

Aaaaaaand We're Back! 

Even though the winter was so mild, it still seems to last forever, doesn't it? Well, good news for warm weather lovers: our yearly spring clean is right around the corner! 

Earth Day at Musselman's Lake is Saturday April 23rd, from 9am to noon, at Cedar Beach Pavilion. 

Join the fun and meet your neighbours! Grab your work gloves and rakes and mosey down to the pavilion for coffee, donuts and hot chocolate to help you get started. 

Last year was a blast! Music, a chili truck, ice cream for the kiddies and a great day for reacquainting ourselves after the winter hibernation. Look forward to seeing all of you there this year!

Coultice Park: An Update!

For eight years the community has been working toward Coultice Park, a multi-acre lot of land to the east of Musselman Lake for the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors. Now the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville has moved forward with these plans.

On Wednesday July 15 at 7pm Ward 2 councillor Maurice Smith will reveal the park's design for viewing and community consultation, here at the Cedar Beach pavilion. Be sure to attend this important meeting, and get a sneak peek at the plans.

New Gate and Sign

Beach Access: New Lock is Installed

There is a new lock installed at the beach access - if you don't have your new key be sure to pick one up from your street rep or contact Lisa for a new one!  The cost this year is $40 (cash or cheque made out to Cedarvale Community Association) which includes the cost of the new key, land taxes and insurance, and will help fund the landscaping our beach so desperately needs.  Lisa's contact can be found in the side bar ---->

The gate has been updated too - it should be able to open and close properly in the winter snows now, thanks Roger!

Landscaping Update:

We have a meeting with the Lake Simcoe Regional Conservation Authority next week to see if there is any funding assistance available to our community to update our beachfront.  We'll be sure to keep you updated with any details!  Stayed tuned for further fundraising later this summer.

CCA BBQ & Key Drive a success!

Thanks to all who helped out with making the summer BBQ and Key Drive a success! We had a cozy turnout with some new faces in the neighbourhood.

Our Beach Improvement Plan had a positive reception from our members, and a few suggestions were added as well. Our next steps will be to meet with the Lake Simcoe Regional Conservation Authority and see if any funds are available to our community to assist with the landscaping. A meeting with the LSRCA will take place later this summer - we'll be sure to keep you posted with any updates!

BEACH ACCESS LOCK UPDATE

We will be changing the lock on the beach access gate by the end of June - make sure you have your new key! The cost of the key is $40, which includes the cost of property insurance, property taxes and landscaping maintenance.
